This 38 year-old patient came to us with chronic shoulder subluxation due to EDS, which resulted in severe thoracic outlet syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome due to stretch of the arm on the brachial plexus. We took a comprehensive approach to identify and treat all the EDS-associated conditions, including POTS, brain fog, MCAS, and chronic migraine. We addressed the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome by treated cervical facet hypermobility with prolotherapy and Xeomin for cervical dystonia. We began to address the shoulder subluxation with prolotherapy and physical therapy. Care is ongoing with incremental, consistent improvement in pain and functioning.
Conditions/Complaints Diagnosed
Headache and Migraine
Headaches are a common medical condition that involves the blood vessels in the head and neck, as well as the tissue and nerves that surround the brain. Headaches can also be caused by the scalp, sinuses, teeth, and muscles and joints of the same area.
Learn MoreComplex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is chronic pain that affects the limbs. It is believed to be caused by damage to the peripheral and central nervous systems. The pain lasts longer than six months, and can be ameliorated but not cured.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (also known as ed’s disease and Ehlers disease) is a group of hereditary disorders affecting connective tissues essential for supporting the body's structures and organs.
Hypermobility Syndromes
Joints are held together by ligaments, and if the ligaments are extra elastic, there will be extra motion in the joint, a condition called hypermobility. When ligaments become overly stretchy, joints may make cracking or popping sounds, the arch of the foot may flatten in a standing position, or knees may “lock” when extended.
Learn MoreHypermobility Spectrum Disorder
Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is a condition characterized by excessive joint flexibility beyond what is considered normal.
